A man was found dead in the passenger seat of a crashed Chevy Camaro Monday afternoon, near Mills College in East Oakland. The man was killed while riding in the car near an I-580 westbound off-ramp at Calaveras Avenue and Buell Street. The driver of the car was also shot, and crashed the car into a utility pole. He was transported to the hospital and his condition is not known.

No suspects have been identified in the case.

In a separate incident Monday night, the clerk of a corner store was shot in the mouth by a suspect who briefly took another clerk hostage. The suspect exchanged gunfire with a third clerk at the store, and took the second clerk in a headlock out the door in order to escape. No arrests have been made. The injured clerk was taken to the hospital for treatment.
