City public defender Jeff Adachi made a bid in court today to try to represent quintuple murder suspect Binh Thai Luc, and we're not totally clear why, except it will bring him attention? The judge ordered that Adachi could not defend Luc and that he would instead get a court-appointed attorney. Adachi's office is already representing Brian Luc, Binh's brother, who is on probation and is being held on other charges, and Adachi wanted to switch over to defending Binh.

Superior Court Judge Lucy Kelly McCabe said no, and Adachi is hurt. He says the judge didn't act within the law, and that he'd appeal her decision.

Binh Thai Luc appeared in court a second time today. He faces five counts of murder with the special circumstance of committing multiple murders and lying in wait.
