In today's final update in the ongoing Mirkarimi saga, Mayor Lee named former S.F. Department of Energy Director Vicki Hennessy as Mirkarimi's replacement during the misconduct investigation. Hennessy (no relation to long-time Sheriff Mike Hennessey, apparently) was formerly a deputy with the Sheriff's Department and supported Paul Miyamoto in last year's election.

According to the Appeal, Mayor Lee told reporters during a brief press conference this afternoon, "Sheriff Mirkarimi's actions and confession of guilt clearly fall below these standards of decency and good faith rightly required of all public officials." As we mentioned previously, Mirkarimi will be officially served with the misconduct charges tomorrow.

In her own statement, Hennessy said: "I know I stand before you amidst difficult times for the city and especially for the sheriff's department. I am very grateful for the confidence of Mayor Lee in asking me to return to public service and lead the department."

The Mayor's office also issued a press release detailing Hennessy's 40-year track record of city service:

She has worked in nearly every division of the Sheriff's Department including Captain of the old San Bruno jail, City prison, the high security jail at the Hall of Justice and the intake jail at 425 7th Street. She was at various times in charge of Training, Administration, Field Services, and the Custody Division... She is a native San Franciscan and a Lowell High School graduate. She currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, a retired San Francisco police officer.
