Roland Pouncy, 42, of San Francisco has been charged with the robbery and strangling murder of Richard Sprague on Julian Avenue back in February. Pouncy was originally named a suspected in the murder after he was found with the victim's ATM card.
At the time, there was some debate as to whether Pouncy had a hand in the slaying or whether he lifted the victim's wallet in the five hours before police arrived on the scene. Today, SFPD homicide investigators confirmed there was a DNA link connecting Pouncy to the strangling.
According to the Examiner, Pouncy has an extensive rap sheet and has been in custody since the incident a month ago. He was originally charged with felony charge of receiving stolen property, which has been changed to charges of robbery and murder in light of the new evidence. Investigators aren't talking about a possible motive yet and the events that led up to the strangling are still unclear.
