As expected, a crowd of roughly 100 eager gadget hoarders gathered at the Apple Store on Stockton Street last night and early this morning to wait out those final sopping and anxious hours before the release of the latest high-resolution miracle toy.

While striding through the glass and metal threshold of the Stockton Street Apple Store is all part of the yearly pilgrimage at this point, NBC Bay Area was quick to point out that rain-soaked fanboys could have saved themselves some headache by walking around the corner to the AT&T Store at 701 Market, where the real geniuses formed a well-behaved two-person line in a nice dry spot out of the rain. (There's a "Think Different" joke in there, if anyone cares to make it.) Anyhow, once he dispensed with mocking them, NBC's Bob Ridell got some first impressions from the Apple faithful:

Meanwhile, Steve Wozniak, the jovial Apple co-founder, was out of the Bay Area for this morning's release. Which means he didn't get to pull his usual move of showing up last-minute at the Los Gatos Apple store on his Segway. Instead, he plopped down in line at the Century City location (where his wife was actually the first in line) yesterday at Noon. Now that he's got his hands on one, what does the Woz have to say about the latest iPad iteration?

I have had an iPad with a low amount of memory and I will finally be able to put a lot more movies on my iPad because I’m getting one with the higher amount of memory.
