Due to some sort of oversight, our monthly tradition was delayed a week until we received our paper copy of this month's Nob Hill Gazette. (We, like most Nob Hillians, prefer to thumb through a physical artifact, as it has been proven to enhance the flavor of slavery-free coffee and organic crumpets.) Anyhow, without further ado, here are our favorite utterances from the March issue of San Francisco's "most exclusive news magazine". Provided (mostly) without commentary and in no particular order. This month's themes: spring fashion, legendary local philanthropists and wearing green. Observe:

  • "If I had to reduce the month of March down to the essentials, I would come up with the articles in this issue." - Lois Lehrman in her Dear Readers letter from the publisher.

  • "Did you know that a typical Caesar salad contains more than 1,000 calories? Lite Bite’s version—made with organic romaine, Mary’s free-range chicken, shaved Parmesan cheese, and the deli’s own Caesar dressing—has only 359." - Food writer James Stolich's report on San Francisco's Artisan Delis.

  • "Another friend, a partner in a San Mateo restaurant, had just paid me a very fat fee to dine at this restaurant and give him a summary of whether or not the restaurant would succeed." - Wine columnist Ed Schwartz' elegy to Robert Finigan.

  • "Think Creamsicle colors! Lips, fingertips, handbags, and shoes are all squeezing the orange. A little twist of this color gives white or cream a whole new perspective. Just don’t mix it with black unless you plan to hang with Tim Lincecum at Tacolicious." - Jennifer Raiser's Fashion Forecast for spring.

  • "Patterns, colors, hand-woven fabrics, and natural colors and fibers—the Anthropologie influence has trickled up to the “piece corps"... Look to designer Douru Olowu for inspiration, and get your National Geographic on." - Jennifer Raiser's Fashion Forecast goes tribal.

  • "Toni [Petersen of Kimberley's Consignment Shop on Clement St.] did sell a Hermés bag for $20,000 once—and a diamond and sapphire necklace for $35,000; the most expensive item she has ever sold. It went to an eccentric (my word) lady who is said to have purchased an adjoining house to store all of her accumulated belongings." - David Fleishhacker's Family Business report on "Famous 'Frisco Families"

  • "After 40 years as a new car dealer, enjoying a new demo every two or three months, I left the business. In 2002, I actually had to buy a car, something I had no experience doing. " - Automotive columnist Martin Swig's report on "The Other Side" of car sales.

  • "When it comes to estate planning, most of us think of how our assets will be distributed after we’re gone." - Steve Soloman's "Worth Reading" report on charitable giving and changes to estate tax laws.

  • "A big estate planning news item in 2011 was the increase in the exemption to $5 million, with a top 35 percent tax over that... For the wealthy, this was clearly good news." - Also from Steve Soloman's "Worth Reading" report on estate tax laws.

  • "But who, WHO will wear the hundreds of embroidered, beaded, sequined silk gowns? How many oligarchs’ wives, mistresses, and porn stars are there? How many Bollywood actors? How many Oscar nominees? (Quite a few, surprisingly.) Beth Ditto, seen at many shows, is an unlikely couture customer." - Gladys Perint Palmer's "Glam and Gloom" report on Paris Haute Couture.
