A man was stabbed to death last night just before 7 p.m. in a Fifth Street homeless shelter run by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. An assailant fled the scene and remains and at large. The victim was pronounced dead at S.F. General.

The incident happened at the Multi-Service Center South shelter at 525 Fifth Street, which has 340 beds for homeless men and women.

For those keeping count, this was S.F.'s fourth homicide of the year. And two previous ones have been stabbings as well.

Update: The suspect in the case was actually nabbed by police only ten minutes after the stabbing, near 4th and Bryant. He's identified as 63-year-old Ricky Leon Scott of San Francisco, and he was booked on murder charges. [Chron]
