There are now some more details in that awful case we mentioned earlier this week, in which 40-year-old Santa Clara nurse Sagal Sadiq allegedly murdered 65-year-old Yvonne Marie Kirk last Friday with a machete inside a home in San Jose. Sadiq claims that the injuries to Kirk and herself were the work of an intruder, but investigators quickly charged Sadiq with the murder. Kirk, it turns out, was the mother of Sadiq's same-sex partner, who was out of town at the time.
Sadiq appeared in court with an arm bandaged and in a cast. She is a nurse at Kaiser hospital in Santa Clara, and prosecutors are trying to have her license suspended in case she makes bail.
Prosecutors say they will argue that Kirk's daughter was trying to cut off her three-year relationship with Sadiq before the murder occurred.
Sadiq's defense attorneys say they will be entering a not guilty plea.
