Two multi-million-dollar homes in the Berkeley hills sustained heavy damage last night as a fire spread quickly from one to the other. The homes are on Miller Avenue near Keeler Avenue and Grizzly Peak Boulevard, and people in homes in the crispy-dry hills above the fire were all forced to evacuate while the blaze was brought under control. Everyone got out of the homes safely and no one was injured.
The fire started around 8:30 p.m. last night and spread fast. Crews managed to get the blaze under control by about 10:30 p.m., but not before a live power line came down on top of one of the fire engines, forcing firefighters to temporarily abandon that engine. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
