A hit-and-run driver apparently drove up on a traffic island beneath the Highway 101 overpass near Cesar Chavez early Saturday morning. According to police, the driver struck and killed a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. The crash was reported around 8:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, Bay City News reports. SFPD has not yet released any details on the suspect, or the vehicle involved.

Update: Bay City News now reports that a 23-year-old man was busted later Saturday afternoon for the Christmas Eve hit-and-run. The suspect, Juan Martinez, was picked up by SFPD and booked on suspicion of "vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, driving on a suspended or revoked license and driving while using a wireless device." According to a spokesperson for SFPD, Martinez may have been using his cellphone at the time of the incident.
