Barely a month after cyclists on the Golden Gate Bridge reclaimed their exclusive speedway lane on the West side sidewalk, the bridge transit district has announced they will be closing off the bikes-only lane for an additional three months of work. While the two-wheel set probably won't be happy about the three month throttling, the latest round of construction is meant to benefit them in the long run.

The project, expected to begin January 9th and continue until April 1st (weather permitting), is part of a Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy project to improve the Bay Trail — specifically the part that connects Fort Point and Battery East to the bikes-only sidewalk on the West side of the bridge. The improvements include new bike and ped-only lanes, new fencing and resurfaced trails around the Fort Point Vista. In the meantime, bridge cyclists are encouraged to avoid running people over.
