48-year-old Valorie Rogers-Rumph and her two dogs, a rottweiler and a pit bull, were found dead in a San Leandro home Monday morning after neighbors reported fire coming out of the home. The cause appears to have been smoke inhalation, and Rogers-Rumph did not have a working smoke detector.

Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze, which started around 7 a.m. The woman was found in her bed, and the dogs found in the hallway. Damage is apparently barely visible from the outside of the one-story structure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Our question is how did the dogs not manage to wake up the woman before they themselves collapsed in the hallway. Could this have been a suicide?
