Christmas came early for a group of 48 families touched by violence in Oakland. An organization called the Nemo Foundation, along with a battered women’s program, A Safe Place, threw a special holiday party for the families, giving multiple gifts to children and relatives of murder victims.

Carol Ferguson-Jones of the Nemo Foundation says, "Some families just don’t have it and the economy is so tight now... You don’t want the kids trying to figure out, ‘how am I going to get something for Christmas if we don’t have any money?’ You don’t want them to turn to the streets or turn to something negative, so you always try to keep something positive.”

We can't actually find any information on the Nemo Foundation, which was listed as an Emeryville business but the phone number no longer works. Given the name, and given that Pixar is in Emeryville, we surmise this could be a foundation arm of the animation studio, named for Finding Nemo. But we're curious about the foundation's mission. CBS reports that they also assist with funeral expenses.
