Dozens of people are out of a home tonight after a fire on shady Eddy Street consumed an apartment building. "The fire at a six-story, 40-unit apartment building at 347 Eddy St. was reported just after 8 a.m.," reports SF Examiner. Other reports suggest that "a cigarette ignited debris at the bottom of the light well, including paper and dry leaves," which then sparked the blaze.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze at around 10:20 p.m. Some residents may be able to return after electricity is restored.
Area house of worship City of Refuge United Church of Christ opened its doors to the estimated 21 to 65 (depending of which media outlet is correct) victims.
