No, not an addition to the Law & Order franchise, an actual division of the San Francisco Police Department: Mayor Lee and SFPD Chief Greg Suhr announced yesterday the department would be consolidating several units under the new Special Victims Unit to, "take care of our most vulnerable" and share expertise between investigators.
The domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and sex crimes units, which are being brought together due to shrinking budgets, will now be sharing an office in the Hall of Justice. Mayor Lee commended Chief Suhr, who was named police chief back in April, for the reorganization, but his department still has to get at least one logistical issue under control. The sign unveiled at the new office contained an embarrassing typo, reading: "SPECIAL VICTIM'S UNIT", but officials quickly hid the evidence of the superfluous apostrophe.
