The inside media baseball fans at the Appeal have picked up an excellent scoop on some editorial shakeups happening over at the insular Bay Citizen. Executive editor editor in chief Jonathan Weber is reportedly out at gajillionaire Warren Hellman's charity online newspaper, leaving managing editor Steve Fainaru as the interim coach.

Weber, who made his name at the Industry Standard, a publication known for following the original dotcom industry's standard of going bankrupt, confirmed the change in a blog post today, saying:

It's hard to believe that it's been only 18 months since I arrived in a temporary office as editorial employee number one. I'm very proud of what we've accomplished since our May, 2010 launch -- breaking a lot of news, crafting a great Bay Area section for the New York Times, developing new modes of multimedia reporting, building a partner network, and generally establishing ourselves as strong journalistic force in the region. I will greatly miss my many wonderful and talented colleagues here.

Weber didn't confirm yet where he's headed.

Fainaru, meanwhile, came to Bay Citizen from The Washington Post, where he won a Pulitzer Prize for his series of reports on abuses committed by private security contractors in Iraq. He lives in El Cerrito.
