Willie Brown is in high demand again: between the string-pulling behind the curtain in this year's mayor's race, Willie is now fielding calls from online retailers who need a lobbyist to fight Senator Hancock's Amazon tax bill. Willie, being pretty good at shilling online himself, would make a fine lobbyist, but he's staying above the fray in Sacramento. Besides, he's got some pressing barbecue issues to tend to on the Embarcadero.

Before we get to the barbecue though, Willie attended another solemn social event at SS Peter and Paul's church - the funeral services for Don Casper which were "as San Francisco as you can get." No disrespect for Mr. Casper, but that was actually what Willie said about the last memorial service he attended at SS Peter and Paul. As for the people watching, the only politico's in attendance were Willie and Tony Hall, which Da Mayor thinks is exactly why no one (read: San Francisco's good old boys) likes the new crop of officeholders.

Meanwhile, in the KCBS headquarters, Willie ran in to comedian D.L. Hughley. Hughley asked Willie to pick up "a set of brass" for the skittish President Obama. Unclear if that's a reference to balls or knuckles.

Of the big Candlestick brawl, Willie says the cooler-and-tailgate crowd has been replaced by "a boozy collection that looks more like the South of Market club scene on a Saturday night." So, girls are going to games without jackets now? That doesn't sound so bad.

Back to that barbecue. Willie's foodie infomercial this week is solely dedicated to Hillstone on the Embarcadero. It's not the first time he's expounded on the restaurant's super-sized sides and generous portions of ribs, but we'd feel incomplete if we didn't share Willie's pride after he "knocked off a rack solo."

Willie ends on a distressing note about his personal finances this week. Before making a big purchase, Willie phoned up his local Wells Fargo branch to make sure he had sufficient funds, to which the banker replied, "Mr. Brown, I don't think you want to know the balance, and please don't make the purchase."
