In case you missed the four articles about it in Sunday's Chronicle, Temporary Mayor Ed Lee is set to make an unspecified announcement at 9 a.m. this morning from the Department of Elections in City Hall. Lee's people didn't say what the nature of the announcement is, but we sincerely doubt he would use the Dept. of Elections office in room 48 to report on the productivity of his 8:30 a.m. meeting with the mayoral water closet. So it's safe to assume he's throwing his proverbial hat in to the ring as a candidate for Mayor. Also, he came clean to the Chronicle yesterday.

Over the past few weeks, the air around City Hall has become pregnant with anticipation over the inevitable announcement. So, naturally the rest of the news outlets have been scrambling to get in their latest hand-wringing pieces about the implications of Lee's run for full term. Depending on which paper and political wonk you like to listen to, Lee's candidacy will either ruin all of the goodwill he's built up in the past seven months or simply piss off the Supes in the race.

Meanwhile, Chris Daly called him a "dorky, Chinese Willie Brown." Which sounds harsh, but the man was spotted taking a final dinner with Rose Pak at R&G Lounge Saturday night. And that's a Willie Brown-like move.
