Ryan, a nine-year-old boy, sits in the hospital this morning facing life-threatening injuries after being stuck by a vehicle last night going the wrong way on New Montgomery. "The suspect in the truck turned left onto Mission Street after driving north on New Montgomery Street, which is a one-way street with traffic only in the southbound direction." The truck went right along after hitting the child, continuing west on Mission Street "before colliding with numerous other cars parked and driving on the street."

The suspect escaped onto a nearby freeway. Hayward police later found the suspect who was arrested and his truck impounded.

The kid and his family, in town from Philadelphia, were staying at a downtown hotel with his parents. They had just returned from a Giants game.
