The No Justice, No BART group calling for the complete shutdown of the BART Police Department might run in to some resistance from (wait for it...) the BART Police Department during their protest planned for this afternoon. Although peaceful protests and demonstrations are still very much legal in this great country of ours, a BART spokesman told the press they are not so legal on confined BART platforms because they could endanger other riders, BART workers, journalists and the protestors themselves. And the last thing anybody wants is more blood on the BART tracks.

Currently the group's Facebook event has 386 people who RSVPed as "Attending", factoring in a 25% flake rate and you're left with less than 300 people on the platform. That's kind of a small bump compared to Civic Center's average turnover of 18,000 riders per day, but should BART police jump the gun and evict demonstrators from the platform, protest organizers say they'll move on from Civic Center and head to Powell Station or Montgomery Station if necessary.

So far, only one commenter on the event's Facebook page has pointed out that everyone interested in demonstrating will need to cough up a couple bucks to BART in order to get down to the platform. Either way: Brace yourselves accordingly, BART commuters.
