Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning. But rain in late June? Jesus christ. We're really getting sick of this. And pretty much every winemaker in a hundred mile radius is shitting in their pants right now because the last thing they need for a decent grape crop is rain. It's bad enough that they're three or four weeks behind in the growing cycle because of the cold rainy spring we had -- meaning they'll be harvesting way late, well into October in most cases, putting them in danger of running up against the first fall rains which can halt ripening and bring on rot.
Right now, if the the sun doesn't come out pronto after this big wet front moves through, to dry off all the grapes, there's a threat of mold to contend with, and pessimists right about now are writing off the 2011 vintage completely. For the rest of us, close your eyes and pretend you're on the east coast, where rain (and thunderstorms!) are totally commonplace in the summer, except it's actually warm there. And nobody's talking about banning circumcision.
