Lucky for some of you, every day is Take Your Dog to Work Day (along with "Work in Sweats Day"), but for those who work in less pet-friendly environs, this Friday is the official day in which your dog can don his best corporate casual attire and see what exactly you do from 9 to 5.

Apparently, the event's been happening since 1999, when Pet Sitters International created the day to celebrate canine companions and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters, and breed rescue clubs.

CBS SF has some guidelines to follow regarding pets-in-office etiquette, which the folks who work at SF SPCA follow when bringing their best friends to work:

  • leashed while in common areas

  • well-socialized

  • current on vaccinations

  • have been spayed or neutered

  • never left alone where barking or whining could disturb others
