Celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which marks this day in 1862 when an outnumbered and under-supplied Mexican army led by Texas-born General Ignacio Zaragoza kicked ass over French forces in what became known as the "Batalla de Puebla."

Here are three celebratory events happening this afternoon and evening, in addition to the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in Dolores Park on Saturday. Be sure to catch a free cab tonight!

La Fiesta at the Cannery: Skip out of work early -- it's another beautiful day out! -- and head up to the Cannery in Fisherman's Wharf. Enjoy live music, DJs, Mexican beers, festive drinks, and soak up some rays in their huge courtyard. Hosted by Eye Heart SF, Essential Nightlife, and CrawlSF.

Besos: A Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Harlot: Celebrate the occasion happy hour-style, featuring live gypsy rock by Diego's Umbrella, tasty food by El Tonayense, and ice cold beer and margaritas to wash it all down. Proceeds from the event benefit The Guardsmen and The Spinsters of San Francisco.

Tropicana & Papalote Cinco de Mayo Throwdown at Madrone Art Bar: Residents DJ Don Bustamante, DJ Apocalypto, DJ Santero, DJ Mr E and special guest from Los Angeles, DJ Sloe Poke will be spinning Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggae, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Rancheras and Reggaeton all night long. Enjoy free Papalote burritos at 10 p.m. while supplies last!
