Awhile back, the Board agreed to break tradition and let junior supes serve on outside boards and committees - which is how Jane Kim got to be the chair of the Rules Committee. It's also why said Rules Committee got in a bit of a tangle over who to appoint to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. With his heart full of rage for the perpetually late J-Church, Scott Wiener seemed like the obvious choice, but the nomination almost became an issue when David Campos tried to pull rank and slide into a seat on the MTC. Luckily for everyone involved, huggable interim Mayor Ed Lee convinced longtime commission member Jon Rubin (who has had a seat on the MTC since before Willie Brown was in City Hall) to step down. So, the Board nominated Campos, Lee nominated Wiener and now everyone in City Hall can be best buds again. Wonderful. Hugs!
