Yesterday in Sacramento, Mayor Jean Quan, ruler of Oakland, was honored as Woman of the Year for the 16th Assembly District. In an effort of shine light on "outstanding California women," the Legislative Women's caucus selected Quan for the following reasons: "Mayor Jean Quan broke many trends this year in California politics. When Jean Quan was elected mayor of Oakland, not only did this dynamic and hardworking woman become the first female Asian to lead a major U.S. city, but she became the very first Asian and first female mayor of the great city of Oakland."

Speaking of Quan, she also has a blog over at Oakland Local, an East Bay site that's the constant recipient of grants, but creates very little content. (We'd like to see more!) Quan's most recent entry is about places in Oakland that are hiring. All three of them!
