At the NTSB hearing in Washington today at which PG&E is having to answer for what went down in San Bruno on September 9, 2010, San Bruno fire chief Dennis Haag testified that he had no idea that a major gas pipeline ran under his city until the explosion occurred. As the Chron reports, says he had a vague idea about two transmission lines running parallel to Highway 101, but he didn't know what a transmission line actually was, and he hadn't seen a map showing where the pipeline really ran. "I just didn't know about it," he admitted.
PG&E says it meets annually with local fire departments to distribute literature and show safety videos, but Haag says they had not gone out of their way to inform local officials about the pipeline.
