New High Protection Roofing Co. and Salvador Trucking Service are the two alleged jerks allegedly behind the illegal dumping of over 100 tons of roofing materials and other debris in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood over the past five months. City Attorney Dennis Herrera filed a lawsuit yesterday seeking maximum civil penalties and damages.

The two companies share the same address at 1499 Van Dyke Street in the Bayview District, and it's believed that they've been conspiring to get rid of the waste together.

According to the lawsuit, San Francisco's Department of Public Works has spent more than $36,000 to remove the waste from public property and an additional $25,000 to investigate and document the illegal dumping. Ten other companies suspected of illegal dumping have also received administrative subpoenas from the city attorney's office.

The Board of Supervisors will be voting on legislation in a couple of months that will more clearly define illegal dumping and would facilitate the process of recovering cleanup costs.

Got something to dump? Call Recology. The city has been cracking down on waste being left on the street by citizens as well.
