We already got the campaign finance numbers on the folks who are gunnin' for the Mayor's office, but who's been asking for handouts on their way to the DA's office? Former member of Newsom's Office of Criminal Justice and a big advocate of the city's CompStat system, David Onek leads the pack with about $160 grand in the bank, but only a third of that actually came from Bay Area Donors according to the Examiner. The rest is from his generous pals in Washington D.C.
Meanwhile, we can't help but wonder what's going on with Paul Henderson's campaign that's keeping the former Deputy DA in second place with just over $60k saved up for the campaign right now. With Attorney General Kamala Harris' blessing and the subsequent Willie Brown bump (is that a Burberry tie?), he ought to be rolling in dough. Or at least throwing $300 hamburger-and-martini dinners at Boulevard every week. On the other hand, most of Henderson's dough came from within the DA's office or at least alumni of it - so we can assume his colleagues like him.
Well, except for Newsom-appointed George "Chief" Gascón, that is. The former Police Chief, former LA resident and former Republican until recently has yet to announce any fundraising numbers, but could make things awkward when he and Henderson - who is technically still under Gascón's employ - have to run against each other.
(Sidenote: perhaps furthering the awkwardness, the California Police Chief's Association has already endorsed Onek.)
