MUSIC: Roots Reggae masters, Midnite, who combine the cultural lyrics of "old school" roots music with modern sensibilities, bring their "epic musical communion" to San Francisco for two nights at The Independent. SF's Jah Yzer opens the show.
8:30 p.m. // The Independent (628 Divisadero St) // $28
THEATER: Tonight's a preview night (get a balcony seat for $7.50!) of the West Coast premiere of Bruce Norris' comedy, Clybourne Park, which "cleverly spins the events of A Raisin in the Sun" to aptly compare the dynamics of race and real estate in both 2009 and 1959. Tonight's show includes a prologue.
8 p.m. // The American Conservatory Theater (405 Geary St) // $7.50-55
LITERARY: Jaimy Gordon will be at Green Apple for a reading, signing, and meet-and-greet for her new novel, Lord of Misrule, which won the National Book Award for fiction. The win's surprise victory in 2010 "uncannily mirrors the novel's title character, the (literally) dark horse who runs the final lap in this novel about the little-known underbelly of the racetrack."
