While we commend "token conservative" Chronicle columnist Debra Saunders for calling out Sarah Palin's blood libel-spewing tribute to herself, we have to wonder why Saunders used three - three! - columns to pat herself on the back for choosing not to print the name of Arizona shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner.

She first explained herself in the ironically titled "First crime, then the opportunism," with another shout out in the admirable "No off button on Sarah Palin" article. And finally (?), in today's column - lavishly christened "The accused shooter -- he who shall not be named" - Saunders lectures on why she refuses to name Jared Lee Loughner.

"Why give him the attention he so clearly craves?" she asks.

Yes, why indeed.

She even re-prints a glowing piece of fan mail regarding her Loughner ban. Hmm, a bit much. Saunders seems to be making quite a name for herself with a little help from he who shall not be named.
