In a slow-week feature yesterday, the Chronicle detailed a one-credit, freshman seminar at UC Berkeley that strives to help students perfect the art of "Photographing History in the Making." Of course, we've all heard about (and seen pictures of) Berkeley's long history of social unrest, but it's cute to see the youngs get excited about being a part of such a vibrant protest scene. To wit:

"The class has inspired me to be more informed, think more independently and not be afraid to ask questions," [One student in the course] said. Though his roommate had no interest in the recent election, [he] said he watched the debates, studied the issues and voted.

Professor Barsky, regularly a professor of Computer Science, attempted to clear up the spirit of such protests, saying: "It's unfortunate that some critics dismiss the protests as spoiled students complaining about higher fees when it is really much more profound than that." Increased tuition and fee hikes are indeed a bother, especially among so many cutbacks, but we do have to wonder who is paying for all those cameras.
