Per @Emergency_in_SF and elsewhere, a protest turned violent yesterday morning at UCSF, with rocks being thrown and nine campus police squad cars on the scene. The protest was over the UC Regents plan to raise tuition.
KTVU reports that the situation was further escalated when a UCSF police officer drew a gun on the crowd of protesters. The angry crowd had allegedly knocked the officer's baton out of his hand and were threatening to take his gun, so he says he drew the weapon in his own defense. See a video at that link.
