The Oakland Police will have to answer to the public after fatally shooting an unarmed "popular store owner" on Monday. The man, identified as 37-year-old Derek Jones, was killed by officers after responding to a domestic violence call.
"Those who knew Jones say he often barbecued in front of his Kwik Cuts barber shop and shared the food with his friends," reports ABC 7. Sharon Tatmon, a friend of the shooting victim, said, "He had his own shop. He would bring his daughter to work with him. He didn't bother anybody."
OPD authorities say they "were called about a domestic violence incident at the Clean Scene laundromat and [Jones] ran," which prompted the deadly shooting.
Last night snafu comes on the heels of Johannes Mehserle's two-year prison sentence for the murder of Oscar Grant.
