You may recall that brouhaha in Noe Valley over the possibility of a street closure to create a pedestrian plaza? Well, the Pavement to Parks Program sponsored by the City has closed up shop with one final set of approvals, and in Noe Valley they decided to back off from a full street closure in favor of two mini-parklets in parking spaces on either side of 24th Street between Vicksburg and Sanchez and between Noe and Sanchez.

The other approval is for a North Beach parklet along the curb on Columbus Avenue between Grant and Union.

What this means is that the proposed plaza on Vallejo Street between Grant and Columbus won't be pushed through by the P2P program, and neighbors still pushing for this will need to do so on their own dime.

A separate project to turn a Noe Valley parking lot (at 24th and Vicksburg) into public open space is ongoing, and will require approval from the Board of Supervisors and $4 million from Rec & Parks.
