One of the neatest secrets of the Exploratorium, the city’s science museum, is actually not in the museum, but located at the Marina Yacht Harbor: The Wave Organ. This sound sculpture, created by Peter Richards and George Gonzalez in 1986, is free to visit, open twenty-four hours a day, and a hidden secret, even for locals. Completely restored in 2010, the Wave Organ is worth a lunchtime stroll, especially when it’s high tide, the best time to visit. More than twenty pipes are connected from the Bay to the sculpture, creating cool music for anyone who presses their ear to a pipe opening.
