An anonymous flier has circulated among Muni drivers encouraging a sickout next week, from September 13 to September 17, to protest the August revamping of Muni's sick leave policy. Basically, as the Snitch reports, in an effort to get their budget under control, Muni has made it more difficult to fudge absences, and curtailed what are known as "standby runs" in which veteran drivers (with 25 years on the job) sit around waiting for an assignment. A May audit found that some drivers spend more time "standing by" than they do driving, and concluded that Muni could save $1.2 million by eliminating some of these.

The anonymous flier, which you can read in its entirety below, begins (all caps, naturally): "DO NOT TOUCH OU R SICK LEAVE PROCEDURES. LEAVE IT ALONE. IT'S BEEN THE SAME FOR 30 YEARS OR MORE." And it concludes, threateningly, "IF WE DON'T COME TO WORK HALF A MILLION PEOPLE WILL NOT GO TO WORK ALSO. IT'S TIME TO USE OUR POWER." The Transportation Workers Union, for their part, denies responsibility.
