Sometimes a headline is so grand yet horrifying, it doesn't need a blogger's reworking. And sometimes the story is so intriguing and well written -- this one involves everything from a magician to Boulder Creek to the Renaissance Fair -- it stands alone. Jennifer Squires of Santa Cruz Sentinel reports:

A San Lorenzo Valley magician who pursued a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl he met while performing at a birthday party will serve six years in state prison, a judge ruled last week.

And:

[Shane] Wright, a father of two who also uses the name Silva, performed magic tricks at a 13-year-old girl's birthday party last summer. At the party, he gave his phone number to most of the girls present and also asked for the 12-year-old's number, according to Assistant District Attorney Ross Taylor.

And again:

Wright encouraged the girl to seek emancipation from her parents. She thought they had "deep and meaningful conversations" and he seemed "mystical," according to Taylor. Wright also is involved in renaissance fairs and has a "unconventional vagabond lifestyle," according to the District Attorney's Office.

It's a bizarre and, in the end, tragic tale. (Allegedly.) Read the story in its entirety here.
