A San Jose man appeared at the home of his estranged wife yesterday morning around 9 a.m. and attempted to kill himself with a nail gun. Police officers arrived on the scene but were unable to get the man to respond from outside the house, so they stormed in.

As the Chron reports, they found the man inside with several self-inflicted wounds from the nail gun, but still alive and holding a ten-inch knife. When he confronted officers with the weapon, they shot him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
