Eve Lounge (575 Howard Street) down in SoMa has some surprisingly good drinks for a downtown after-work spot that has DJ nights and such. Bar consultants the Bon Vivants (Josh Harris and Scott Baird -- Scott's also one of the men behind 15 Romolo) have put some care into the cocktail recipes, including this one below, which is a little girly and has a girly name but is really quite balanced and delicious.
Charlotte's Web
5-6 Basil Leaves
1 egg white
1 1/2 oz Hendrick's Gin or Stoli vodka
1/2 oz. Dolin sweet vermouth
1 1/2 oz. pineapple juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1 dash Peychaud's Bitters
Topped with cracked pepper
In mixing glass muddle basil with fresh lime. Add ice and rest of ingredients except the black pepper. Shake vigorously, pour into martini glass, add cracked pepper and garnish with a basil leaf.
