Haight/Assault: Egads, how gruesome. Early Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m.-ish, an assault occurred near the intersection of Waller and Webster. William Valentine, 42, was arrested for attacking someone he allegedly knew. According to BCN (via CBS 5), here's how it went down:

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., 42-year-old William Valentine, of San Francisco, attempted to run over the victim while driving a vehicle in the area of Webster and Waller streets, Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

Valentine then crashed the car into a pole, exited the vehicle, and beat the victim on the head and body with a bat, she said.

Valentine was arrested and charged him with "attempted murder, mayhem, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Daly City/Murder: Responding to reports of gunfire early this morning, police found the body of an unidentified male on the 6200 block of Mission Street. The Chronicle reports, "Witnesses reported seeing two people running from the area after the shooting, which happened near the Daly City-San Francisco border." No arrests have been made.

Update: KTVU reports that the victim, 26-year-old Alexander Temaj Castanon, was shot as he was getting off a Muni bus on his way home from work. Police it "may have been a case of mistaken identity."
