Several shows to choose from this week including Kansas-based garage punks Rooftop Vigilantes at Elbo Room tonight, local pysch-rooted shoegaze quintet LSD and the Search for God at Hemlock Friday and the previously profiled A Place to Bury Strangers alongside local favorite Weekend at Rickshaw Stop Sunday.
Our featured act this week is San Francisco's own Grass Widow, who play El Rio Friday. The all-female trio makes dreamy lo-fi pop with an undeniable punk aesthetic -- think beautiful three-way harmonies and surf-rock riffs held together by distorted guitar, frenetic drumming and intentionally raw production. After a string of well-received releases on Brooklyn's Captured Tracks and local upstart Make A Mess, the band recently signed with indie trendsetters Kill Rock Stars -- look out for their highly anticipated sophomore LP (and subsequent buzz) this August.
Plenty of other show options this week including Spectre Folk at Hemlock tonight, dance-friendly local trio Butterfly Bones at Rickshaw Stop Wednesday and Canadian indie elite Stars at The Independent Saturday and Sunday -- be sure to consult the full list.
