Plenty of post-Bay to Breakers live music options this week with local post-punk trio Terry Malts at Hemlock Tuesday, Los Angeles-based beat maker Baths at the Terrorbird Media 4 Year Anniversary party at Milk Thursday and San Francisco garage rock favorites The Fresh And Onlys at Thee Parkside Friday.
Our featured artist this week is Caribou, who plays The Independent Sunday alongside the previously profiled (and all-around awesome) Toro Y Moi. The brainchild of 32-year-old doctor of mathematics Dan Snaith, Caribou has been pumping an eclectic array of electronic-tinged psych-pop for over a decade. Like his four previous LPs, 2010's stunning full-length Swim is already a well-deserved critic's favorite -- we would not be surprised to see both the album and its lead off single "Odessa" topping the major "best of" lists come December. While the show has sadly sold out, we expect some tickets to free up on craigslist as conflicted ticket-holders realize that the Lost series finale is also Sunday night.
As always, there are several other solid music options this week including Scottish quartet Frightened Rabbit at The Fillmore Wednesday, the Vivian Girls/Woods side-project Babies at Li-Po Lounge Thursday and rising local folk favorite Emily Jane White at Cafe Du Nord Sunday.
