As we predicted this morning, San Francisco Police Chief George Gascón made his official apology today regarding statements he made about our local Middle Eastern ilk possibly parking a van outside the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant and blowing it to smithereens.

The seemingly remorseful press release, sent out my the SFPD Media Relations Unit, says:

Police Chief George Gascón would like to apologize to those in the Arab, Middle Eastern, and Muslim communities who were offended by his comments yesterday. Chief Gascón did not intend to upset the community and he his mindful of the importance of cultural sensitivity, not only here in San Francisco, but nationally. The Chief and members of the San Francisco Police Department would also like to wish those of you who celebrate, a very happy Persian New Year.

So, there you have it -- an apology plus a Persian New Year shout-out.

Welcome to the city, George.
