This week's concert preview is being brought to you by Kevin Meenan of Epicsauce, providing detailed concert listings for the Bay Area every week. Follow them on Twitter.
This week gets off to a rocking start with local indie act Worker Bee at Hemlock on Tuesday, San Diego's lo-fi garage-punk quartet The Soft Pack at Rickshaw Stop Thursday, hip hop producer extraordinaire Madlib at Mighty Friday and San Francisco's extremely eclectic and always entertaining Battlehooch at Bottom of the Hill Saturday.
We are particularly excited to catch Oakland-by-way-of-Minneapolis trio Clipd Beaks with rising local favorites White Cloud and Late Young at Hemlock Friday. While no doubt impossible to pigeonhole, the experimental outfit's post-punk and krautrock influenced sound is quite reminiscent of Liar's 2006 classic Drums Not Dead, complete with tribal drumming, throbbing bass lines and a consistent overall hypnotic drone. This week marks the release of Clipd Beaks highly anticipated third album To Realize, and if the teaser tracks "Blood" and "Atoms" are any indication, the buzz on these guys is soon to reach a fever pitch. These Hemlock shows are known to fill up fast, so be sure to get there early.
