FILM: As if French avant-garde cinema wasn't weird enough, seventies British rocker Steven Severin has composed new scores to several esoteric films of the genre. The San Francisco Film Society presents "Steven Severin: Music for Silents," his new live compositions alongside silent short films including the classic The Seashell and the Clergyman (1928).

PHOTO: To honor Erik Tomasson's fifth year photographing the San Francisco Ballet, the Museum of Performance and Design presents a retrospective of his work. Tonight's opening will include discussions with the ballet's director and choreographer, Helgi Tomasson as well as dancers.
