Our hungover city's music scene is awash in post-holiday cheer this week, with local punk favorites La Plebe at Thee Parkside Thursday, excellent shoegaze chillers Weekend at Hemlock Friday, and both Sacramento's Cake and experimental alt-rock legends Sonic Youth playing sold out shows at The Fillmore this weekend.
In addition to the above, we're looking forward to catching Lymbyc Systym at Café Du Nord Saturday. Consisting of brothers Jared and Michael Bell, Lymbyc Systym skillfully layers track upon track of guitar, synth and drums to create dreamy post-rock epics that pay equal homage to their Austin neighbors Explosions in the Sky and electronic pioneer Four Tet. We caught the sibling duo when they opened for Crystal Castles (for whom Lymbyc Systym's Michael Bell previously manned drums) last spring and were simply entranced by their sprawling, atmospheric set -- rest assured that their intricate recordings translates well to stage. Similarly cinematic acts Helios and Cloud Archive open, so be sure to get their early.
