Although the election is still a couple of years away, district 8 Supervisor Bevan Dufty "plans to file forms with the city's Election Department this morning announcing his intention to run [for mayor] and will immediately begin raising money and his profile," reports SFGate.

The openly gay father goes on to tell the Gate that "'I'm going to be a grassroots candidate and it's going to take a lot of time and a lot of shoe leather to reach out across the city.'" Already he's used local sites like Mission Mission to gain early momentum (a far cry from his assistant who doesn't understand the difference between blog posts and ye olde newspaper articles.)

Good luck out there, Supervisor! With former Obama deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand on your team, you're off to a fine start.

Other possible contenders in the SF mayor's race are City Attorney Dennis Herrera, State Senator Yeeland Yee, and Supe Ross Mirkarimi. And, although he has no intentions of running, we have a slight suspicion that another State Senator might throw his hat into the ring.
