ART: SFMOMA is holding a Memorial Service honoring Bay Area sculptor and conceptual artist David Ireland, who passed away in May. Ireland's highly idiosyncratic body of work focused on the creation and function of art within everyday life. There will be a program in the Wattis Theater at 4 p.m. featuring speakers who were close to Ireland and his work, followed by a gathering in the Schwab Room at 5 p.m.

LIT: Two literary notables take the stage tonight in Author Lorrie Moore in Conversation with Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket. Moore will discuss her life, her writing, and her new novel, A Gate at the Stairs.

THEATER: Crowded Fire Theater Company presents a regular free Matchbox Reading Series featuring works that are in development. Tonight's event will feature a one-night only reading of Forever Never Comes by Enrique Urueta, about a young transgender man who returns home to rural Virginia, which will make its world premiere in 2010.
