UPDATE: Well, that was a nice surprise. The bridge opened at 7 a.m. this morning. It's been inspected and is now safer than when it closed.
Transportation officials announced at 5 p.m. today that they will need an extra day to repair the newly discovered crack on the Bay Bridge, and therefore the bridge will reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday instead of tomorrow morning.
In preparation for the ensuing chaos, BART will be running longer trains tomorrow -- but will not be running overnight trains this a.m., and ferries will be added to routes from Alameda/Harbor Bay, Alameda/Oakland, Larkspur and Vallejo. Check 511.org for transit and detour info.
Additionally, how was your out-of-town commuting this weekend, readers? We returned from Lake Tahoe yesterday afternoon, and it took us about two hours to get from I-80 onto the I-580 onramp en route to the Richmond Bridge and U.S. 101.
