Week Around the Ists

  • Bostonist mourned the passing of our senior U.S. Senator with a slideshow of the memorial at the JFK Library, a look at the Boston history of the Kennedys, and a report from the memorial services.
  • LAist rocked out hard at the Vans Warped Tour to a lineup of "new-age punkers."

  • Phillyist got John Oliver to go Shakespearean on Philly cheesesteaks and then tried to convince a tourist that there's more to do in Philly than grab one of those eponymous sandwiches.

  • Torontoist discovered Toronto City Living, what can only be described as the most magnificently unfortunate magazine ever.

  • Shanghaiist recounted their own experiences of seeing Chinese people behaving badly at Ikea - changing diapers in the canteen, doing photoshoots on the furniture and using the display bowls for their personal picnics.

  • Chicagoist saw an argument break out over the aesthetics of a new City-commissioned tile mural that went up on the city's North Side.

  • Gothamist found out the Parks Department busted Russian women for swimming 30-45 minutes after the beaches close at 6 p.m., threatening to take them to jail. One of the women later said, "We came to the U.S. to escape the Communism regime, the regime when every step is watched and controlled by the government."

  • Londonist anticipated, tracked, followed and visited protesters setting up the Camp for Climate Action.

  • Seattlest read Sunset Magazine's special investigative report on Seattle stairways, and then added a little insider's perspective.

  • SFist came across a local business that wildly overacted to a mediocre Yelp review.
